Wildcard DV

Product description

A Wildcard DV (Domain Validated) SSL certificate is a type of SSL/TLS certificate that allows you to secure a main domain and all its subdomains with a single certificate.

Similar to Single Domain DV certificates, Wildcard DV certificates require only basic domain validation. The Certificate Authority (CA) confirms that the applicant has control over the main domain by verifying domain ownership through methods such as email verification or uploading a verification file to the website’s server.

The wildcard feature of the certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of subdomains under the main domain. For example, if you have a Wildcard DV certificate for “*.example.com,” it can secure “www.example.com,” “mail.example.com,” “blog.example.com,” and any other subdomains of “example.com.”

Wildcard DV certificates are commonly used by organizations that have a main domain with multiple subdomains and want a convenient and cost-effective way to secure all of them. They are suitable for personal websites, small businesses, blogs, and other non-sensitive applications where encryption is needed for multiple subdomains without the need for extensive validation.

It’s important to note that, like Single Domain DV certificates, Wildcard DV certificates do not provide information about the organization behind the website and do not display the organization’s name in the browser’s address bar. They simply encrypt the connection between the user’s browser and the website, showing a padlock icon to indicate that the connection is secure.
